Rhapsōidia (ancient Greek for “stitched song”) reimagines the age old art of weaving stories as a living, generative audio-visual sculpture.

Created by M Moser Associates for Amsterdam Light Festival: Edition 14, it transforms public messages into dynamic light compositions in real time. Every message submitted through this website contributes to a growing dataset that drives the sound and patterns of this luminous, ever-evolving tapestry, a constantly shifting reflection of collective imagination, hopes, and ideas for the future.

The artwork is set on the façade of the old telecoms building at Herengracht 295, Amsterdam, a site long attuned to the murmur of distant voices, its role quietly evolving with technological advances. Honouring the building’s history as a transmitter of stories, Rhapsōidia invites visitors to become part of a legacy that echoes forward. It aims to bridge past and present, inviting everyone to shape what comes next and standing as a record of collective communication and storytelling.

Where voices once travelled through wires, a new signal now flows, one that honours the past while looking toward the future.
